Ludicrous adverts in local papers #2

with 10 comments

Thanks to Jonathon Oake and ‘ideoforms’ for providing this advert from this week’s South London Press.

"I'll have the 6 Mayoral Entourage Deluxe Bucket, cheers mate."

Yes, an entire page dedicated to the opening of yet another branch of Chicken Cottage, an establishment which has always sounded suspiciously like a poultry-based version of Hansel and Gretel to me.

These events are clearly quite prestigious, though, judging by the superfluous entourage flanking Mayor Christopher Wellbelove (apparently not a fictional name). Presumably they all went home happy after getting their free chicken drumsticks.

  1. Is it me, or does “Chicken Cottage” sound like its a euphamism for something extremely rude….??

  2. No chicken for me as I am a vegetarian, but had a lovely veggie burger and pleased that five new jobs had come to the area.

  3. I love chicken cottage. I go there for lunch everyday! There can’t be too many as far as im concerned. And if it brings in extra jobs that even better!

  4. Chicken Cottage is SO NOT the way forward. I prefer Spice Chicken Island opposite Gracefield Gardens health and social care centre in Streatham (hearting Streatham all the way xxx)

  5. Spice Chicken Island is good to. But doesn’t really have the range of Chicken Cottage. Especially the one on Lower Marsh Road. The chicken just falls off the bone. Delicious!!!

  6. Not really feeling the idea of chicken ‘falling’ off the bone, I prefer something to get my teeth into. @Petey: have you tried Crispy Chicken Bites on Baylis Road, SE11?

  7. @ Kells Bells, I haven’t, but i’ll be sure to get down there straight after work.
I like to think i’ve been to every chicken spot in Lambeth. They’re far better than Southwark chicken eateries!!

  9. Of course the opening of chicken eateries is a prestigious event, when they opened the Swiss Cottage branch top showbiz stars Paul Daniels and the lovely Debbie McGee attended…

  10. Chicken = gay slang (Polari) for young gay man.

Cottage = gay slang (Polari) for public loo (particularly one used for sex).

If only Jules and Sandy were still around! They would insist on having one in the Balls Pond Road, wouldn’t they, Mr Horne?
